What you need to know:

  • Reports to the Director – System Patient Access and Financial Clearance, the Manager – Patient Registration and Scheduling is responsible for the key business processes of the Revenue Cycle with emphasis on the Patient Access functions in Columbus Regional Health’s Emergency Department.
  • The ideal candidate is knowledgable of Patient Access functions including registration, scheduling, and pre-service requirements.
  • Is a leader of a large team of Patient Access staff located in the Emergency Department and CORE Registration areas.
  • Manages the quality and efficiency of insurance benefit verifications, medical necessity checks, and financial clearance and pre-service collections.
  • Establishes, communicates, and maintains Patient Access operating policie and procedures, to improve operations while maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Sets goals for the Department and monitors key performance metrics to drive process improvement strategies forward and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Champions the implementation and utilization of new functionality and workflows.
  • Establishes patient satisfaction standards of excellence and leads the Team with a passion for cultivating an environment of customer service orientation
  • Balances workload, manages schedules, and assesses strengths and weaknesses of colleagues to appropriately designate key responsibilities.
  • Works with Human Resources and cross functional departments to recruit, interview, select, train, and onboard new personnel.
  • Provides direction and mentoring, develops and communicates performance metrics, and evaluates the effectiveness overall team and individual staff performance.
  • Provides counseling, cross-training, and coaching to team members; maintains healthy team morale.
  • Develops and implements staffing plans and related budgets as required.
  • Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow, patient throughput, and quality requirements.
  • Participates in meetings, inter-departmental workgroups, and process improvement initiatives to gather data, communicate initiatives, and contribute to advancement.
  • Maintains a specified level of knowledge pertaining to: industry standards, new developments and/or requirements, policies, and cultural awareness.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What is required for this position:

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) from a four-year college is required or 7 years experience in progressively complex healthcare technical/analytic/leadership roles, or Associate’s degree (AS) with 5 years of complex Team leadership/management experience.
  • The ability to respond professionally to inquiries or complaints from patients, other departments, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Aptitude to effectively present information to staff, peers, direct supervisors, public, regulatory agencies, and boards of directors.
